Healing Turmeric Tonic

"Dawn" is playing in the background, a playlist I curated for when the need to be cozy and feel all the feels arises. It's one of my favorites, and I'm still curating it. It's a grey day in Denver, and and the week comes to a close I just want to spend the rest of my day relaxing, enjoying a great book, and great people.

This tonic has become a staple of my day, much like the Carob Chip Protein Bars. Turmeric has amazing healing properties, and for those of us who suffer from chronic inflammation, bloat, and allergy flare ups, this is a necessity! If you aren't an allergy or inflammation prone individual, you should still try this babe on for size, because it is incredible, and so easy! Can't wait to try it cold in the summer.

Aside from reducing inflammation, turmeric can help calm upset stomach and balance acidity levels. It can also (supposedly) help to boost the body’s metabolism, but I'm not a hundred percent on that one. All I know is what I've gathered from research, but largely my own experience. Sometimes I can feel my body asking for a turmeric tonic, and it really does feel like it is curing from the inside out.

One thing I do know for sure, is to make sure you always use black pepper when using turmeric. (my fave girl Nikisha Brunson taught me that on her stories!) Black pepper activates the turmeric and gets those healing properties going! Without it, it's just a fun citrusy addition.

5 Minute Healing Turmeric Tonic

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups water

3 t freshly grated turmeric (I use a microplane)

2 t freshly grated ginger

1 t turmeric powder

2 t honey

8-10 peppercorns

squeeze fresh lemon juice (about 1/2 a tablespoon or so)

Instructions

Add all of the ingredients into a small sauce pan, stir, and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Allow to boil for about 1 minute, then let simmer for 4 more minutes.

Strain into mug and enjoy!
